"I like Fun City because it gives my son a place to go and be with other children and learn. He is in advanced kindergarten class and is doing exceptionally well and I feel Fun City had a part in that. I love Fun City!"

What is a Community Champion?
A "Community Champion" is a citizen or organization who has taken an active role in our community, and has made an impact in our community through leadership and service, volunteerism, or character. These are individuals who go above and beyond and exemplify what it means to be a good role model for the community.

Who is the beneficiary of the Community Champion Fundraiser?
All proceeds of this semi-formal dinner go toward the Fun City Youth Academy.

Why should I support the Fun City Summer Youth Academy?
For the sixth consecutive year, Fun City Youth Academy (FCYA) and Columbia Public Schools (CPS) will collaborate and administer a joint 'extended' 8 week Summer School program. The primary goal of the FCYA and CPS Summer School partnership is to combat "summer fade" by helping students retain the skill levels they attained during the school year. Literacy is the focus and is taught by both CPS SUNsation staff in the morning and FCYA staff in the afternoon. Additionally, students receive a nutritious breakfast, lunch, snack and have a safe, individualized, structured, fun and affirming place to go on a daily basis. Many low-income working parents use the summer school as dependable childcare service. Many children would be left home alone if they did not attend FCYA Summer School.

FCYA gets positive results! According to Columbia Public Schools STAR Assessment scores, 67% of Summer 2017 Fun City Students maintained or gained in reading levels!
