Frequently Asked Questions: Saturday Academy:

What are the dates of the Fun City 2017-2018 Saturday Academy?

The Fall Session starts on Saturday, September 9th and continues through December 9th, except for November 25th (Saturday of Thanksgiving week).

The Spring Session starts on Saturday, January 20th. It meets every Saturday through May 12, 2018 except for Saturday, March 24th and 31st (Spring Break).

Is there a charge for the Saturday Academy?

No, there is no charge. It is funded by the County of Boone, by grants from foundations and civic organizations and contributions of local citizens who want to help provide opportunities for children to grow to their full potential. While there is no charge, there is an expectation that parents will make sure their child attends on a regular, weekly basis. Because there is no charge, they may not realize how important the program is and that repeated failure to attend regularly will mean that the child's place in the program will be taken by another child.

Is there an obligation from parents?

Yes, we require that parents attend a program orientation and at least two parent group meeting per Spring and Fall semester. We ask them to volunteer in the program at least on one Saturday during each semester. That way, they get to know other parents whose children attend and they can also personally see how the program is helping their child. It also allows them to make suggestions about the program and how it can meet the needs of their families.

How do I enroll my child in the Saturday Academy?

You can come into the office and fill out the Saturday Academy Application Form or you can email us through the Contact Us link, requesting an Application Form.

Can I enroll my child after the program starts, during the year?

Yes, but you need to make sure that there are open places, so call us at 573-256-1436 or Contact Us to check on that before filling out an Application Form.

Is transportation offered for the Saturday Academy?

Yes, to a limited number of children whose parents have no other form of transportation and who live within a 10 mile radius. There are three conditions to being picked up by the van: one that the child is ready when the van comes, the next that the child cooperates with the van driver, and the last is that the parent notifies Fun City Youth Academy staff at least by Thursday that the child will be absent on the following Saturday.

Is there a meal for the Saturday Academy?

Yes, we start promptly at 11:30 am with a simple meal. There will be a snack later in the session.

Are there special events and field trips for children participating in the Saturday Academy?

Yes, we have holiday events, which will be announced in advance and some will include invitations to families to attend. There will be occasional fieldtrips and parents will be asked to fill out a permission slip for their child's participation. Parental assistance in event preparation and fieldtrips is welcome and encouraged.
